Maestro Butts Courses Fall 2022

Maestro Robert W. Butts will be teaching several exciting couses in Fall 2022 starting September 19

Great Composers (Bernards Township Public Library, 32 South Maple Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ): "These are some of my favorite works I''ve been fortunate to conduct," Maestro Butts commented.  Complete with video clips from performances, works to be discussed include Antonio Vivaldi''s Four Seasons, Franz Joseph Haydn's Symphony #94 "The Surprise", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart''s Clarinet Concerto, Ludwig van Beethoven''s Piano Concerto #1, Felix Mendelssohn''s Italian Symphony, George Gershwin''s Piano Concerto in F. Course runs Monday mornings, September 19-November 31, 9:30-10:30 AM.  For further information and to register, click here.

Friday Night at the Opera (Bernards Township Public Library, 32 South Maple Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ); Operas to be discussed with video excerpts: Gioachino Rossini's L'Italiana in Algeri, Gaetano Donizetti''s L'Elisir d'amore, Giuseppe Verdi's Il Trovatore, Richard Wagner's Tannhauser, and Maestro Butts's own Mark Twain and the General.  Course runs Friday evenings, October 7-November 11, 7:30-9:00 PM. The Story of the Symphony (Washington Township Public Library, 37 East Springtown Road, Long Valley, NJ): The symphony has been a major part of orchestral performance and composition for almost 300 years.  With discussion and video clips, Maestro Butts will discuss the beginnings of the symphony in the early 18th century through the developmens by composers such as Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Mahler and others through the 21st Century.  The course runs Friday mornings, October 7-28, 10:30-11:30 AM).  For further information and to register, click here. 

Music of the 1960s (The Adult School, West Field Memorial Library, 550 East Broad Street, Westfield, NJ): The 1960s were a turbulent decade, filled with much history and artistic expression, most notably in the music that was vitally a part of the decade and of history.  The course runs Tuesday afternoons, September 27-October 18, 1:00-2:30 PM.
