Maestro Butts has been working closely with librettist Vincenzo Faggiano on an exciting new operatic work called La Serva di Padova. He conducted an earlier version in January 2019, and is composing additional music for various characters and scenes.
La Serva di Padova is a story set in the 14th and 21st Centuries. It is based on a historical events that led to Venice absorbing Padua as part of the Venetian Republic. Most prominently the characters of Bettina (la serva/the servant) and The Contessa whose characters appear as both ancestor and descendent.
Maestro Butts’s music is modernist and lyrical, dramatic and reflective. “Addio,” the final number, has already been hailed for its warmth and beautify.
The show will star sopranos Dominika Zamara and Claudia della Giustina. It is currently scheduled for performance on September 17 at Teatro Verdi in Padua.
