Concerts in Venice Italy!
Maestro Butts and musicians of The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey travel to Venice, Italy for special concerts December 27 and 29.
On December 27, Maestro Butts will present a recital of his compositions. Guest artists include pianist Paul Zeigler, soprano Dominika Zamara, tenor Kevin Peters, oboist Nancy Vanderslice, flutist Laura Ferraro, and bassoonist Andrew Pecota.
The concert starts with Three Browning Songs – settings of three poems by Elizabeth Barrett Browning for voice and piano, performed by Paul Zeigler and Kevin Peters. Ferraro-Vanderslice-Pecota will then perform Five Course Dinner for Three – a whimsical musical evocation of delectable dishes. Soprano Dominika Zamara and tenor Kevin Peters will then sing selections from La Serva di Padova – book/lyrics by Vincenzo Faggiano.
The concert will be at Palazzo Cavagnis, Foresteria Valdese di Venezia and will start at 6:00 PM.
On December 29, musicians of the orchestra will be joined by violinist Agnes Kwasniewska for music by Maestro Butts and Baroque composers Telemann, Cambini, Quantz, and Vivaldi. The concert will be at Comunità Evangelica Luterana di Venezia and will start at 6:00 PM.
La Serva di Padova, featuring Dominika Zamara singing the songs of Maestro Butts, was performed at the Sala dei Giganti in Padua on December 14.
On December 28, an additional concert will be presented at Palazzo Zacco-Circolo unificato dell'esercito Prato della Valle Padova (in Padua.). This concert will feature tenor Kevin Peters with pianist Paul Zeigler and will also feature violinist Agnes Kwasniewska, flutist Laura Ferraro, and bassoonist Andrew Pecota performing music of Maestro Butts, Johann Quantz, and Henryk Wieniawski.
Maestro Butts, on Saturday December 9, presented a concert of his compositions at The National Opera Center at Opera America in New York City. The performance included the first American performance of songs from La Serva di Padova, sung by Dominika Zamara and Kevin Peters and featuring actors Barbara Giovannelli, Sveva Bertuzzi, and Alfredo Popolizio. Vincenzo Faggiano, author of the play and lyrics, flew from Italy especially for this unforgettable performance. Also performed in New York were Maestro Butts’s chamber Opera The Tell-Tale Heart (featuring soprano Timothy Maureen Cole, mezzo Ann Urbanowicz, tenor Kevin Peters and pianist John Pivarnik) and Early Morning Suite (beautifully performed by guitarist Stanley Alexandrowicz).
Paul Zeigler has been a favorite guest artist with BONJ performing music of Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, and Gershwin.
On January 14, Paul will help Maestro Butts and BONJ welcome 2018 with a special concert featuring Beethoven’s Piano Concerto #3.
Agnes Kwasniewska has served as Concertmaster for BONJ since 2010 and is a noted soloist and chamber music artist.
Laura Fererro, Nancy Vanderslice, and Andrew Pecota are principal players in the BONJ winds.
